TYCC Learn-to-Sail CampsEvery summer we host our Learn-to-Sail Camps from June to Mid-August. These are one-week camps from 9am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday. They are forchildrenthat are age 8 before June 1st of each year and end with age 15. We use Learn-to-Sail Prams that fit a child weighing 70 - 110 lbs. Our goal is to teach the sailors sportsmanship, teamwork and responsibility while learning how to have fun sailing. Our Beginner Camps teach the children the basics of sailing. We start with a swim test and capsize drill. Continuing with wind direction, points of sail, tacking, jybing, basic sailing rules and simple racecourse design.Intermediate Camps build on basic sailing skills. The sailors work on additional racing rules, reading the weather, starts, mark roundings and finishes.Advanced Camps will prepare the sailors for Regattas. They will be taught how to fine tune the boats, using their body weight to their advantage, roll tacks, roll jybes, various types of starts, upwind tactics, mark rounding rules, and fast finishes. They will also have their very first Regatta. To sign up for our Summer Learn-to-Sail Camps contact the Dockmasters Office at
